Cayetano Heredia Consolidates Its Position Among the Top 10 Universities in Latin America

Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia ranked among the top 10 universities in Latin America in the 2026–2027 Best Global Universities Rankings published by U.S. News & World Report. The university also achieved first place worldwide in the Normalized Citation Impact (NCI) indicator, further strengthening its position as Peru’s highest-ranked university in this international ranking.

One of the most remarkable achievements in this edition was UPCH’s No. 1 global ranking in the Normalized Citation Impact (NCI) indicator, which measures the influence of scientific publications based on the citations they receive while accounting for differences across academic disciplines. This distinction reflects the broad international recognition and impact of the research conducted at Cayetano Heredia.

Cayetano Heredia was the only Peruvian university ranked among the top 10 institutions in Latin America, joining leading regional universities such as the Universidade de São Paulo, the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and the Universidad de Buenos Aires. This achievement reaffirms its position as the country’s highest-ranked university in this prestigious international ranking.

The ranking also highlighted the university’s outstanding performance in several key research areas. In Infectious Diseases, UPCH remained among the Top 100 universities worldwide and ranked first globally in both the Normalized Citation Impact and Conferences indicators within the discipline. In addition, Public, Environmental and Occupational Health recorded one of the strongest improvements, climbing 22 positions compared with the previous edition, while Clinical Medicine maintained an outstanding performance in research reputation and impact indicators.

Beyond the rankings themselves, these results underscore the international recognition of the research carried out at Cayetano Heredia and reinforce its standing among Latin America’s leading universities for scientific excellence and research impact.
