Belgian Ambassador Visits Cayetano Heredia to Strengthen Academic and Research Partnerships

With the aim of strengthening academic and scientific collaboration between Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH), the Alexander von Humboldt Institute of Tropical Medicine (IMTAvH), and Belgian higher education institutions, the Ambassador of Belgium to Peru, Mr. Yannick Minsier, visited UPCH’s Central Campus (San Martín de Porres) on May 27. The visit took place within the framework of a mission led by the Belgian Directorate-General for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid (DGD), reaffirming a longstanding institutional partnership.

The meeting provided an opportunity for dialogue and the exchange of experiences between UPCH authorities and the Belgian delegation, with the shared objective of fostering new opportunities for collaboration in research, academic training, and scientific development. During the visit, Dr. Dionicia Gamboa presented the main research initiatives and achievements of the Alexander von Humboldt Institute of Tropical Medicine (IMTAvH), while Dr. Raúl Loayza introduced the Faculty of Science and Engineering and highlighted its academic and research activities.

Representing UPCH, Rector Dr. Wilfredo Gonzáles Lozada emphasized the importance of strengthening international partnerships to promote innovation and scientific development for the benefit of the country. He was joined by Academic Vice Rector Dr. Víctor Carrasco Cortez, Vice Rector for Research Dr. Mirko Zimić Peralta, as well as university authorities and faculty members.

The Belgian delegation also included Mr. Philippe De Bruyckere, representative of the Belgian Directorate for International Cooperation. Ambassador Yannick Minsier praised UPCH’s academic and scientific excellence and expressed his enthusiasm for continuing to strengthen cooperation and joint initiatives between both institutions.As part of the program, the delegation toured the Molecular Epidemiology Unit (UEM), the Single Molecule Manipulation and Visualization Laboratory, and the Alexander von Humboldt Institute of Tropical Medicine (IMTAvH). These visits showcased the university’s scientific and technological capabilities in key areas of global health and biomedical research.
