In a significant step in the fight against gender-based violence, the Faculty of Psychology at the Peruvian University Cayetano Heredia (UPCH) held a workshop on July 18 titled “Master Degree in Gender-Based Violence (MDinGBV).”

This workshop was part of a project funded by the Erasmus+ Program of the European Union, in which our university participates alongside a consortium of universities from European and Latin American countries. The event featured distinguished representatives from the public sector, academia, organized civil society, and project consortium members, including the University of Alicante (Spain), the University of Medellín (Colombia), and the University of Xalapa (Mexico). Their experiences enriched the debate on gender-based violence, addressing the challenges in combating this scourge, preventive measures, and concrete, urgent actions to tackle this severe global social issue.

The main objective of the project is to strengthen the capacities of the academic community in Colombia, Mexico, and Peru in the fight against gender-based violence. UPCH plans to achieve this goal through the creation of a Master’s program in Gender-Based Violence. In this context, the Faculty of Psychology at UPCH is conducting a series of activities involving institutions from various sectors committed to combating gender-based violence. These activities aim to enrich the content and methodological proposal of the Master’s program in development. The first edition of this program will be offered in the second semester of 2025. The Faculty of Psychology at UPCH thanks the entities that have participated in this co-creation process, including the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations (MIMP), the Office of the Ombudsman (DP), the National Police of Peru (PNP), and the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPFN). The project is supported by our Graduate School and other renowned institutions and researchers committed to the prevention and eradication of this type of violence, which severely affects society.
