Consolidating Global Partnerships: Cayetano Heredia Welcomes the British Ambassador and Explores New Initiatives

In our ongoing effort to enhance our global presence, we recently welcomed the British Ambassador to Peru, Mr. Gavin Cook, and the Director of the British Council in Peru, Dr. Edgar Ramírez. Their visit to our Central Campus in San Martín de Porres underscores our commitment to quality education and the strengthening of our international relations.Upon arrival, the distinguished guests were received by our Rector, Dr. Enrique Castañeda; the Academic Vice-Rector, Dr. Yesenia Musayón; and the Director and Deputy Director of the University Office of Institutional Relations and Internationalization (Durin), Dr. Cristina Guerra Giraldez and Mag. Francesco Mencaorni. The meeting addressed crucial topics regarding internationalization and explored joint actions to bolster cooperation between Cayetano Heredia and higher education institutions in the United Kingdom. Notably, the discussion highlighted the Mutual Recognition Agreement for Degrees and Titles, which will facilitate greater integration and promote academic and professional mobility.

Working Together Towards the Future

A key topic in the conversation was the development of joint research projects between our academics and their British counterparts. Currently, we are engaged in 16 collaborative research projects with institutions in the UK, with a total funding of USD 12,409,169.77. The discussion also covered incentive programs for visiting professors, aimed at enhancing academic exchange and advancing knowledge.

In the area of innovation and entrepreneurship, our collaboration with AstraZeneca was highlighted. This partnership, established through an agreement signed on June 7, 2022, led to the creation of a health innovation hub designed to improve the health ecosystem in Peru by promoting new technologies and innovative solutions.

Additionally, our Language Center has been working with the British Council to implement English teaching programs and train teachers in this language. This collaboration aims to elevate educational quality and promote bilingualism within our academic community, strengthening our capabilities for global education.

In terms of quality assurance, we discussed actions for continuous review and improvement of our educational processes, including internal audits, training workshops for faculty and administrative staff, and the incorporation of new technologies to optimize learning.Finally, Dr. Yesenia Musayón emphasized our commitment to internationalization and interdisciplinarity in our programs, promoting collaboration among various faculties and academic programs to offer a more integrated and holistic education.

A Glimpse into Scientific Excellence

The visit concluded with a tour of our facilities, where the Ambassador and the Director of the British Council had the opportunity to visit the Laboratory of the International Center of Excellence in Malaria – Emerging Diseases, led by Dr. Dionicia Gamboa. This laboratory exemplifies our dedication to high-impact research and scientific innovation.We sincerely thank Mr. Gavin Cook and Dr. Edgar Ramírez for their visit and their interest in our initiatives.
