Cayetano Heredia and the Universidad de Concepción: a bridge of learning and solidarity in Peruvian communities
The academic exchange between the Universidad de Concepción – Chile and the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia culminated successfully, providing six (06) Chilean students with the opportunity to participate, from October to December of this year, in the internship program in Social Dentistry in Piura and Oxapampa.
This exchange was possible thanks to the inter-institutional cooperation agreement signed and in force since November 9, 2020, with the support of our Faculty of Stomatology and the University Directorate of Institutional Relations and Internationalization (Durin). This collaboration allowed students to have a unique educational experience, where they were able to develop their clinical skills while working directly in vulnerable communities.
In Piura, students Karla Naín Arce, Valeria Noriega Cisterna, Felipe Cartes Jara and Yenny Pinto Florescompleted their internship in the communities of Canchaque and San Miguel de Faique. Meanwhile, in Oxapampa, Juan José Aldea Sanhueza and Paulina Osses Gatica provided dental care in various rural communities in this province.
Ms. Karla Naín Arce, one of the participants of the program, expressed her gratitude to our university: «I want to thank the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia for the warm hospitality and for giving us the opportunity to live such an enriching experience. The care in the communities was incredible and the support received throughout the process made this experience memorable.»Through initiatives such as this, Cayetano Heredia strengthens its role as a benchmark of educational excellence, promoting internationalization, intercultural dialogue and the development of values of solidarity and social responsibility in its students, contributing to the improvement of the quality of life in the most vulnerable communities.
