Cayetano Heredia and the Embassy of Japan strengthen academic cooperation during institutional visit

With the aim to explore opportunities for academic and scientific collaboration, as well as strengthening institutional ties, a delegation from the Embassy of Japan in Peru visited our Central Campus in San Martín de Porres. The delegation was led by Ambassador Tsuyoshi Yamamoto, accompanied by diplomatic and cultural officials from the Japanese mission in Peru.
During the visit, an institutional presentation of Cayetano Heredia University was delivered, highlighting the university’s leadership in scientific research, the training of health professionals, and its commitment to national development. The work of the Honorio Delgado – Hideyo Noguchi National Institute of Mental Health (INSM) was also presented — a national and international reference centre that symbolises the historic relationship between Peru and Japan in the medical and academic fields.
Topics discussed included the university’s internationalisation priorities and the potential to establish strategic partnerships with Japanese higher education institutions, promoting academic exchange, student mobility, and collaboration on joint research projects.
The Japanese delegation also included Ms Kanae Seino, Cultural Attaché; Mr Rafael Carrasco, Officer from the Department of Culture; and Dr Yoko Mikami, First Secretary. Representing Cayetano Heredia were Dr Enrique Castañeda, Rector; Dr Carlos Cáceres, Vice-Rector for Research; and Mag. Francesco Mencaroni, Director of International Relations.
Following the official meeting, the delegation toured the Laboratory of Developmental Neurobiology, Neurodegeneration, and Zebrafish, where Dr Brenda Delfín presented the research conducted at the facility, emphasising its innovative approach and the potential for collaboration on areas of shared scientific interest with Japanese institutions.
This visit reaffirms Cayetano Heredia University’s commitment to strengthening its international outreach and to building bridges of scientific cooperation that transcend borders — for the advancement of knowledge, health, and society.
