Cayetano Heredia and Operation Smile strengthen care for patients with cleft lip and palate

With the aim of providing specialised speech therapy care to low-income patients with cleft lip and/or palate, our university and the Operation Smile Peru Association signed a specific cooperation agreement on 12 February.
This partnership will allow patients to receive care from undergraduate students and interns from the Speech Therapy programme, under the supervision of faculty members from the “Alberto Hurtado” Faculty of Medicine. In this way, students will enhance their professional skills while contributing to the well-being of the community.
The agreement was signed by the Vice-President for Academic Affairs, Dr Yesenia Musayón, and the Executive Director of Operation Smile Peru, Ms Lizet Campos. Also participating were Dr Félix Medina, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; Mr Cristian Mejía, Head of the Medical Technology programme in Speech, Hearing, and Language Therapy; Dr Jesús Tamariz, Director of the School of Medical Technology; and Dr Milagros Rojas, a Cayetano Heredia lecturer and Coordinator of Speech Therapy at Operation Smile.
Thanks to this initiative, we continue to make a positive impact on the community, especially among the most vulnerable, ensuring quality care and training professionals with a strong service-oriented vocation.
